Android and iOS are much more than mere mobile devices. Both have a solid media ecosystem to grab buyer attention and enjoy a steady revenue stream from sold books, music and rented movies. Even if RIMM creates a solid device with QNX, the possibility of challenging iTunes store or android marketplace is non existent in near future. On the other hand , Amazon is a media power house with a borrowed device (from Google) in Kindle Fire. That makes Amazon and RIMM natural allies. At these prices, Amazon should buy a large stake in RIMM in lieu of integrated (if not exclusive) media services on BB8.

There is room for everyone
Emotions flow raw on every mention of AAPL v/s RIMM or iOS v/s Android. Be it online forums , corridor discussions or weekend bashes , the world seems to be divided and ready to argue every bit in favor (or against) Apple. Its actually good that tech is gaining main stream mind share that used to be normally devoted to Sports or Hollywood.
Investors are equally divided on these three players though majority is tilted towards Apple but again its a fine balance that can sway any side, any day though I think there is ample room for all three (and many more) to grow in exploding "post PC era". All three have a dedicated market segment -
Investors are equally divided on these three players though majority is tilted towards Apple but again its a fine balance that can sway any side, any day though I think there is ample room for all three (and many more) to grow in exploding "post PC era". All three have a dedicated market segment -
- Apple enjoys a solid traction in youth / home market with solid music, apps and super touch.
- Google has a great story for SMB market with Google Apps on Android / Chrome platforms.
- RIMM is designed and has solid footprint in large businesses where compliance, security, control and accuracy are prime IT objectives.
As the smart phone market grows , there is potential to push more and more form factors and services in all the three segments.
